Sad treatment of Eska mural

Written by Manne on Jul 07 2009

Got a tip last night that Eska had put up a new mural in the tunnel. Since I like his stuff I walked through the tunnel on my way home for the first time in a long time, and there it was. Pristine, untouched, brightening up the tunnel in all its glory. Unfortunately, I for once didn’t have my camera so decided I would snap it first thing in the morning.

Walked past it today, and somebody gave it the proper Beirut treatment. All bombed to shit. Typical. I wonder if the outline of “IMAGE” was there in the original. Or if that is a really skilfully done hack. If it is, good work, I must say.

The latest mural by Eska. Bombed to shit almost immediately...

Classic Eska. New, clever innovation introduced with this one though, using a stencil he has connected the left side of the graff with the right one painting the URL to his web site (www.eskaart1.com) as a halo on the floor.

Eska mural closeup 1/4. Eska mural closeup 2/4. Eska mural closeup 3/4. Like a halo on the floor, the URL to Eska's web site is stenciled. Eska mural closeup 4/4. Like a halo on the floor, the URL to Eska's web site is stenciled.

Kindly contributed by Eska himself, here is a photo of the mural without all the tags:

Check out the Galleries page for two fresh galleries with artwork.

Also check out Eska’s site, where he has published some recent stuff from Stockwell and South Bank.

Been a bit lazy with the blogging lately, summer and holiday is the obvious priority.

Expect more updates as temperatures wind down… ;)

Gritting the tunnel, 1st of August

Written by Manne on Jun 16 2009

On the 1st of August an event slightly out of the ordinary will take place in the Leake Street tunnel: knitters and graff artists will create “a fusion of can and craft” as they will be gritting the tunnel.

Bringing knitting and graffiti together is bound to lend an entirely unique look and feel to the dear tunnel. This is an event not to be missed, so bring out your best hardcore ninja knitting needles and join in the fun!

Get sick, green eggs, gay arm and hand

Written by Manne on Jun 01 2009

Sometimes these really strange stencil looking pieces show up... But I think they are brush painted..Spot the pattern?

Me neither.

More of that brush painted (?) artwork (see also “Headache inducing“).

It just looks so freaky.

Gay hand, gay arm. Apparently. I don't like green eggs

Collection of random things, skulls and loons…

Written by Manne on Jun 01 2009

A roundup of some random things, again in the category “more mysterious and interesting than anything else”… Again a lot of skulls. Also some loons in there. Got to catch them all…

Big skull on the grey demilitarized zone. Naughty. Funky hairdo on girlie. Graffiti hacking?  Adorned skull. Sideways loon. Or did I forget to flip the photo? Monkeyface on top of previous adorned skull It's a Pacman! Missed that when I first saw it. Robotboy Right. Umm... Huh? Strange doodle... Jesus saves. Apparently. I recognize this little kid in a bear suit. Strange door open and cars being driven through it... A bit annoying, there was a new cool piece on the doors! Wonder where that tunnel leads. Skull! Another skull... Skull Skull and Loon on Batman graff. Loons Loon and skull. Loon. I love those faces. Skull Another skull Skull! Skull! Skull at the end of the doodle... There must be more than one person doing these.  Skull!

Tunnel 228 in Leake Street

Written by Manne on Jun 01 2009

Duh. Sometimes I am sooo slow on the uptake. Ever since I heard about the Tunnel 228 project I have been kicking myself for not knowing in time to get tickets. Anything done in the tunnels below London has my undivided attention.

Not until today though, when DebL commented on the mysterious torso and kindly gave me some more info on them, did I realize that Tunnel 228 actually emerged in the Leake Street passageway. Perhaps the construction work I saw earlier this year was related to that. What else could it have been…

In fact, looking at the picture of the exit here, I am fairly certain it was.

The Guardian has written a lot about the Old Vic and Punchdrunk collaboration:

Kicking myself, kicking myself…

Manic laughter

Another one of those odd little finds.

I love this shot.

Well known style. I like the simplistic broad strokes and the big blocks of coloring.Past few weeks have seen two new pieces by Hek. One blue and white in the appendix and one chrome in the main tunnel.

He says himself that he wasn’t very happy with the blue and white one as a combination of weird wall surface and rain made the paint drip.

That may be the case, but I must say I really like his style. Simple design, powerful and determined outlines, really stands out from the wall and gets the attention.

Looking forward to see more.

Hek!
